[February Thematic Report] Environment and Media

What I Am Doing To Help Environment

Environment and Media

The major I graduated from is Environmental Engineering and in the department what we have typically learned was ¡®design¡¯ which is a significant part of what engineers mostly do.

From efficiency to being innovative and practical, design is the core of engineering departments. However, I always had a tendency to be a little theoretical than what we supposed be. I was also truly interested in the environment and media relationship.

The part where we reach people who has no idea about what toxic means, why their water needs filtration , why the air we breathe is getting polluted and most important question that has billions of proofs but still not completely accepted as ¡®yes¡¯ :

Is climate change real?

I have mentioned that I am really fond of the environment and media concept. Currently, I am a news writer volunteer in Universal Versatile Society (https://www.uvsociety.org ). It is an organization that has multiple branches including environment and climate change. The general mission of the organization can be summarized as being expertise to promote sustainable rural development in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

I am responsible for searching and writing 5 news (every week) through environmental news sites I have been designated. Sites such as Washington Post Climate & Environment, EcoWatch and E&E News.

The news that I and my group prepared are sent to our editor. After that, these are delivered to the video editor and other workers to prepare these news for a Youtube video. Video series of climate change and environment news.

The channel these are uploaded is called Weekly World Climate Change News by Universal Versatile Society (https://www.youtube.com/c/WorldClimateChangeNews).

Through the months I have been working for this organization, I believe I have reached number of people who would like to learn and expand their horizon with 7-10 minute weekly news about environment. Although my act was simple and implicit, I believe the feedback will be direct when it comes to protect our world through educating people.

We would be so happy if you would like to subscribe and become a part of this news channel.

Another amazing opportunity is the forum that I am currently writing to share this. Tunza Eco-Generation. I don¡¯t think I need to explain how amazing this forum is. I appreciate the chance that was given to me to be a part of this community.

Throughout my ambassadorship, I shared my articles with my acquaintances and friends, even with my Korean Culture Class Teacher- she was extremely hyped about the forum and my articles which made me so happy. Despite the fact that I might not be able to achieve to make those people regular members of this forum, still, I am confident that they have learned a lot of things from the articles they have read.

As a future goal, aside from my graduate degree plans, I would like to expand this media dream of mine and to start a podcast about environmental issues. From basic explanations of daily life environmental concepts to terms which people might not understand at first when they see it on somewhere – but they will not be illicit to it since I will be explaining it briefly.

I have always loved listening things and as far as I can remember, I began listening podcasts on the application called Audioclip, it is an app in Korean. I started listening to that when I was studying to improve my Korean listening and vocabulary knowledge. However, it made me a full-time subscriber to the channels that I really like and I fell in love with the podcast world. At that time, I searched for podcasts that talks about such concepts like pollution, toxicology, atmospheric science and climate change.

There were few which made me so happy and I started to listen them one by one. Some of them were 60 minute lectures and some of them were brief data which you can absorb in 5 minutes. After sometime, I wondered in the comments, there were a lot of people who listen these on their way to work, when they are in subway or in their car. There were even people who listen this type of channels when they are cooking.

Not the lecture ones though, I think 5 to 20 minute ones were chosen the most.

This type of realization drove me to plan out my own podcast and what I will be conveying to people who would like to learn, who are in search for more data or would like to share their environmental or climate change issue experiences with the world.

I hope I will be able to continue my volunteering duties and I hope I will be establishing this podcast idea onto a much more solid ground when I am studying my graduate degree.

I would like to keep believing that education and honest media will help us as we go through this process of environmental issues.

Oh! I would really like to have guests from here, from my ambassador friends after I start the podcast channel.

Thank you so much for reading!
