Carbon Neutrality: Let's not limit ourselves.

by Dante Santiago Prada | 12-01-2022 04:12

When you think about achieving carbon neutrality, you usually pass that problem on to large corporations and central countries, but that is a mistake. While it cannot be denied that large corporations have a great responsibility when emitting different greenhouse gases without regulation, we, the individuals, are also responsible, since we have means to reduce our carbon emissions on a daily basis. But how can we do it?
There are various ways for individuals and families to reduce carbon emissions to reach carbon neutrality. In this article we will address examples of how to reduce carbon emissions from two socio-economic points of view, that of the lower-middle class and the upper-middle class.
Lower-middle class: There are several options to reduce carbon emissions and work towards carbon neutrality without having the possibility of investing in this. Some options are:
Use sustainable means of transport whenever possible, such as public transport, cycling or simply walking if the distance is short.
Avoid the excessive use of hot water by reducing its consumption as much as possible.
Reduce the use of electrical energy as much as possible, that is, turn off the lights that are not in use or do not leave the TV on if it is not in use.
Do not burn garbage.
Plant trees, plants, shrubs or grasses to promote natural processes that eliminate CO2 such as photosynthesis.
Upper-middle class: There are many ways to reduce carbon emissions, having the economic resources to invest in this. Some actions that can be performed are:
As far as possible all of the aforementioned that do not mean a large expenditure of money.
Install solar panels to substitute the use of ordinary energy for that of solar energy.
Install water heaters with solar panels that heat the water through solar energy.
Whenever possible to help foundations that just seek carbon neutrality.
