[Thematic Report] Careers (Jobs) Related to Renewable Energy

With so many tragic events and disasters triggered by climate change taking place everywhere on the planet, the importance of green jobs is increasing radically. Green jobs are being generated at a fast pace and over the next decade, we expect to see hundreds of millions of green jobs created globally due to new climate policies and commitments. "The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that 24 million jobs worldwide could be created by the green economy by 2030 alone", as per an article by the World economic Forum. 1

Here are 5 great renewable energy jobs where one can make a meaningful career and also help in saving the planet. 

1. Wind Turbine Technician
As a wind turbine technician, one can expect some adrenaline-filled work with the power to satisfy one's craving for adventure, meaning and great reward. The job of a wind turbine technician involves setting up, maintaining and repairing wind turbines which are used to generate wind energy. This is one of the jobs which requires very less qualifications in general and offers great reward. One can expect to work mainly outdoors and often at great heights as a wind turbine technician. Many times, the job of a wind turbine technician is taken up by rock climbers.

2.Energy Analyst
As the name suggests, an energy analyst is someone who conducts audits and on-site renewable energy feasibility assessments and diagnostics. An energy analyst is also expected to prepare energy efficiency assessment reports and requires high qualifications in engineering studies.

3. Solar Energy Adviser
Being a solar energy adviser involves being the primary contact for home owners and guardians looking for energy reduction opportunities. This is basically a sales job where the candidate is required to guide the client through the entire sales journey, from guiding and shopping, to installing and repairing. One needs a proven sales experience with technical products and energy industry measurement techniques. 

4. Sustainability Specialist
Again, as the name suggests, a sustainability specialist is someone who help organizations develop plans and policies for executing their goals to reduce environmental impact. This work may involve developing strategic plans to reduce overall energy usage & waste, and procuring energy from renewable sources.

5. Solar Construction Manager
A solar construction manager is someone who is responsible for overseeing the construction of solar plants or the installation of solar arrays. It is a well paying job with a less emphasis put on qualifications. The job of a solar construction manager mostly involves outdoor work and is good for those with a great handling of self and other employees and labourers.
