Thematic Report - Air Pollution

by Justice Obiri | 01-12-2021 16:52

Based on Statistics on IQAir, my country Ghana was ranked 24th out 106 countries selected for Air Quality testing and checkup in 2020. This is a bad news to me as a Ghanaian, this mean we are not doing enough in our fight against air pollution. Air pollution has been a major cause of deaths around the entirety of Ghana and Africa as a whole. According to WHO guidelines, as of 2020 Ghana was declared unsafe so far air pollution was concerned.

The main causes per this stats of the intense air pollution were attributed to;

1.     Mining

2.     Forestry

3.     Cement industries

4.     Aluminum smelting

5.     Vehicle emissions

6.     Waste burning

These are all topical issues I have reported on since joining this noble platform in 2018. I have taken upon myself as a Tunza Eco-generational Ambassador to help reduce the impact of Air Pollution in my country. This journey has not been easy but with support from Eco-generation with the supplies of goods for various forums organized, my journey has not been a bad one. This term I did not apply for any promotional goods because my schedules are really tight but hopefully next term, I will definitely apply and continue with the forums so as to educate the people on the need to avoid practicing any of the mentioned above causes of air pollution and in the long round, help reduce air pollution.

Air pollution is said to be polluted when impurities have been introduced into it. Some of these impurities could be smoke, dust, rubber particles, and poisonous gases. The use of air purifiers is one of the best ways to purify air for breathing but simply, putting on a mask goes a long way to help reduce the effect of air pollution the human body.

Green Cheers From Ghana!
