COP26: Nigeria Sends Strong Message To Rich Nations

by HASSAN ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD | 14-11-2021 07:06

"Nigeria - as did all the countries in the developing world - came here to say we are eager to contribute to a greener planet, even thoug we are, for all practical purpose, non-emitters."

Said President Muhammadu Buhari."Africa, overall, is responsible for merely five percent of global greenhouse emissions, we are nonetheless feeling cheated, oppressed, and lied to by the rich nations."

President Buhari's speech, which centered on a number of issues agitating Africa and the developing countries the major emitters which brought the world's climate to this sorry state for making promises toward climate finance that to date, have remained hollow.

The President told world leaders that the goal of transitioning from fossil fuel to clean energy, reaching a net zero emissions would require critical infrastracture to be in place in developing countries.
As maintained by the President, mankind has a duty to act on dangers posed by climate change.
