Sad Reality of Eco-friendly Waste Management

by Earl Lawrence Gamil | 31-10-2021 19:52

In my country, eco-friendly waste management is almost non-existent. Wast management in here is just putting garbage in a truck and throwing it somewhere far from the cities and just just forget about it until some problem arises( a lot of problem arise). In this essay, we are going to talk about the things my country can improve and its possible effects.

Open dumping or open burning of municipal solid waste (MSW) is the most common method of waste management in developing countries, and it has a significant environmental impact due to a lack of a management budget and a weak policy for waste management in local communities, particularly in clusters with garbage less than 5 tons per day. In order to know what we are going to do with this, we need to know the trash commonly thrown in this country. The physical makeup of the wastes is needed to be analyzed using the quartering technique and type separation, which is a significant factor for choosing the best technology. According to the American Society for Testing and Materials, the physical and chemical qualities required for the design of the chosen technology were identified. By approximation , the waste in the Philippines are mostly wet (wet fraction), e.g. kitchen waste and yard waste, which is about 40 %. The remaining can be said as dry fraction, comprising plastic, paper, cloth, rubber and trace amounts of non-combustible material, e.g. glass, metal and hazardous waste. By this approximation, we need focus the incineration and gasification technology.  Sadly, this technologies need a lot of money, which we don¡¯t have right now.

The amount of waste generated in this time has increased tremendously s a result of population growth and urbanization. Because developing or low-income countries do not have adequate government budgets, non-sanitary and unregulated landfills are commonly utilized to dispose of waste , resulting in contamination, and this causes significant environmental and human health consequences. The only hope that we have is to have is to support organizations that can help us and vote for politicians that has some concern to our environment.
