Composting to reduce Eco-wastage

by Momina Ahsan | 01-11-2021 01:01

We have seen from the recent years that waste management is the crucial issue. Many companies contributes in eco-friendly waste disposal and many organizations started campaigns to allocate different ways for waste management. One of these methods is Composting. Of the MSW generated, approximately 69 million tons were recycled and 25 million tons were composted.

  • Composting:
This one has been gaining a lot of attention in common households, wastes generated in kitchen in the form of vegetable peels or clippings from the yard. These are being effectively put to use by allowing them to decompose in a compost pile. These piles can be easily built in small spaces. A number of methods of composting are being used in little to no space, worm composting and bokashi buckets are few examples. These compost pile leads to the formation of compost which are quite helpful for the soil, basically, it makes it more effective to use.

It is basically a process in which the microorganisms reduce the organic compounds into small pieces, generally by bacteria or fungi in the simplest forms. It involves the four major components:

  1. Oxygen
  2. Moisture
  3. Bacteria
  4. Organic matter
When the organic matter is composted into the soil, the nutrient levels enhance. thus, adding the credibility of soil and helping it to be more nutritious.

Organic matter is added up in the form of piles into the soil and with the moisture, oxygen helps in the breakdown of the organic matter. thus, converting the material with the help of microorganisms into small matters. Wait at least two weeks before turning the pile, to allow the center of the pile to "heat up" and decompose. Once the pile has cooled in the center, decomposition of the materials has taken place. Frequent turning will help speed the composting process.

Thus, the fertility of the soil increases due to decomposition of organic matter into small products.

Through this method, we can reduce the waste into eco-friendly waste, helping in making the eco-friendly universe. This method is not only easy but effective enough to create an impact by individual efforts.

Lets create an impact by feasible method of composting,
Utilize microorganisms to bring the eco-friendly matter,
Let's raise awareness and uplift the standards,
Through individual efforts, let's bring sustainability.
