Thematic Report For October - Eco-Friendly Waste Management

by Justice Obiri | 01-11-2021 13:06

Eco-friendly waste management is a comprehensive discipline in the management of waste such that it poses no harm to public health. This is very important because in our quest to get rid of waste in our environment, it sometimes end up being a nuisance. An example is burning rubbish in order to get rid of it. Burning the rubbish would indeed get rid of it but it return it could lead to air pollution which would cause diseases to human beings and again contribute to increasing climate change all around the world. It is therefore important that we take some precaution when getting rid of waste. In Ghana some measures are being gradually but slowly put in place to help the country in its quests to bring adequate waste management to limelight.

Recycling is a major factor to consider when we talk about Eco-Friendly waste management. I am so much into recycling because I received my bags from a friend whom I would be nominating for Eco Hero Awards for her wonderful work in turning waste materials into beautiful bags that could be used for all occasions. She gets pieces of cloths, used boxes, yarn, and she puts them together to produce a beauty. Recycling refers to an eco-friendly waste management system that protects the environment and secures the wellbeing of the community. Materials such as plastics, paper, glass, and aluminum can be recycled and reused over and over again, making the environment very stable and good live in.

Waste Reduction is also another factor to be considered. This comes down to behaviours as individuals. Waste keeps increasing because we are the ones generating them. Can we ever get rid of waste? Well, I do not think so. So what can we do to salvage the situation? Well, that is quite simple; we could put in an extra effort to reduce waste generation in our environments. I personally prefer to walk to the supermarket than joining a bus. If whatever I am buying from the supermarket is hand-held, I prefer to keep it in my hands without taking any rubber along. I have biodegradable packs that I use whenever I have to buy things in copious quantities, and this small acts of mine helps reduce waste in my environment.

We could individually make an effort to reduce waste in our vicinities cautiously, we ought to continue to educate the masses and perhaps one day all will be well with our world.

Green Cheers from Ghana!
