The environmental issue and the condition of poverty

by Fernanda Roepcke | 24-10-2021 08:45

Global warming, caused by the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, has several consequences across the planet. However, its impact and intensity are different for certain social classes in our world. Scientists show that those who least affect and degrade the environment are those who suffer the most from the consequences of environmental degradation, as they do not have the financial conditions to adapt to climate change.
Comparing today's world with past decades, it is clearly seen that it has advanced. However, it advanced unevenly, the benefits of economic growth were not distributed equally, resulting in richer rich and poorer poor.
According to the UN, it is the rich countries that consume around 80% of the planet's resources, although only 25% of the population represents these countries. We conclude that a rational policy for environmental protection involves eradicating poverty, in the first instance.
