Free report: Cleaning the glass wares and culture of bacterias (August)

by Asmita Gaire | 23-10-2021 11:40

Greetings everyone!

The condition throughout the world has been so severe due to outbreak of COVID19. Viruses, bacterias and other microorganisms are cultivated in laboratory for various purposes. So, special attention has to be made so that they won¡¯t get out of the laboratory and takes havoc form.

I am a veterinarian, and we have to work on different infected samples that can be from virus, bacteria, fungi or other organisms. We have to work making very safety protocols. When it comes to microbiology laboratory, then lots of factors have to be taken into consideration. As a student, we do several practicals, assist in research. We currently had our exam done, and we thought of cleaning the microbiology laboratory entirely. I, one of my friend and one sister from immediate junior batch worked in this work.

We autoclaved all the glass wares; cleaned them and let them dry. We cleaned all the equipments and entire microbiology lab cabinets and laboratory. It took all the day, yet it was so difficult for us to have all the works done.

Nevertheless, the entire day labour didn¡¯t go into vain. The laboratory was cleaned with all the necessary protocols applied. Our teachers repeatedly teach us saying everything starts with cleaning; the first thing that students should learn is work experience programme that encompasses cleaning of laboratories too. I must say, it¡¯s true; the student must know the value of cleanliness and sanitation. Most of the diseases come into control with safety protocols whether it is in laboratory or outside the laboratory.

The next day, we took sample from Buffalo suspected to be suffering from Haemorrhagic septicemia. Haemorrhagic septicemia is a bacterial disease caused by Pasteurella multocida. It affects buffaloes and cattle with high mortality rate. It is a highly contagious disease. It causes a huge economic loss in the sector of animal husbandry. So, it's considered as one of the notifiable disease in Nepal. It's a disease of concern in animals in different parts of the world. Vaccination of the cattle is one of the preventive measure for the disease. Sometimes, there may be failure in vaccination due to several reasons. So, proper maintenance of the farm and animal shed must be done.

We are very hopeful that our practice of culturing the bacteria and diagnosis of disease would really value in the future.
