Solid Waste Management Specialist - SWMS A solid waste manager checks if the actions taken align with the environmental regulations. They manage activities relating to the landfill, waste-to-energy plants, transfer stations, and recycling. They also conduct waste diversion programs and confirm solid waste permit compliance. They may assist in the operation of many environmental projects like the collection of waste. Add to that the work with known and unknown hazardous chemicals. They assign tasks, schedule meetings, and direct plans to handle the waste. Thus, Solid Waste Managers help WtE plants to find the corresponding waste collection plan. They align the process with the environmental regulations. It's important to note that SWMS tend to be environmental engineers, scientists, or other related professions. 2. Mechanical Engineer A mechanical engineer has a variety of responsibilities to operate a waste-to-energy gasifier. They request technical goods from the suppliers. All plants, including this plant, require upgrades and repair, handled by the technical team. They coordinate the construction and installation works at the plant site. They participate in several calculations. This expert assures all mechanical engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards. They also help find the most effective cost competing for the best mechanical solutions and designs. Hence, they are required to provide the highest level of mechanical support for the plant. 3. Electrical Engineer To complete the task, we will need an electrical engineer. The Electrical Instrumentation & Control Technician will install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation. They ensure the safe and reliable operation of process instrumentation and installations. Moreover, they look for specifications on the procured materials and pieces of equipment. They perform physical installation of new instrumentation and perform engineering design studies. They have a look at the plant daily, precisely on pneumatic actuated valves. They may have experience in the Power Generation industry. For example, they would be responsible for the electrical maintenance of the plant. More clearly, Electrical Engineers work the soul of the plant while Mechanical Engineers build its body. 4. Chemical Engineer The plant is not ready to be used without the involvement of a chemical engineer. They are responsible for any treatment processes within the plant, such as air, water, etc. They take care of the produced waste that might be hazardous, practicing distillation, dissolution, etc. Another reason a chemical engineer is indispensable is that they have to predict risks and they determine the best ways to prevent them. For example, in a gasification plant, they would test the quality of the synthetic gas produced to determine the best utility for it. All in all, no plant is successful without the collaborative efforts of the SWMS, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical engineers. There's no doubt that each of these professions is difficult.
