CO2 in Ecuador

Consumerism and industrialization aggravate the concentration of carbon dioxide in the planet air and Ecuador is no exception.

Do you know how much CO2 Ecuador produces?
CO2 emissions in 2019 (latest report) have been 40,700 kilotonnes, making Ecuador the 119th country in the ranking of countries for CO2 emissions, made up of 184 countries, in which countries are ordered from least to most pollutants.
If we look at the evolution of CO2 emissions per 1000 dollars of GDP, which measures, for the same country, the "environmental efficiency" with which it is produced over time. In the last period, Ecuador has emitted 0.21 kilos for every $ 1,000 of GDP, the same as the previous year in 2018.

However, in the last five years, total emissions have decreased in Ecuador, as have emissions per capita, then the situation is improving.

A sad fact: in the city of Quito (Ecuador's capital), the pollution generated mainly by public service units is palpable daily. For example, on Necochea Street, 350 buses run between 06:00 and 19:30, it does not matter to be a genius to find out about the state of the air because of CO2. In the sector, there is no shortage of houses with windows covered with adhesive tape. The houses are a kind of jail. As Roberto Castro, a resident for 61 years, says, the neighborhood was lost.

As a citizen of Ecuador, I must say that the Ecuadorian government has created various projects against CO2, such as the ¡°socio forest¡± project, which consists of the delivery of economic incentives to peasants and indigenous communities that are voluntarily completed for the protection and conservation of forests. And we stop from the region.

Citizens must get involved in initiatives that allow the reduction of emissions such as efficient mobility and energy-saving projects. Likewise, public and private organizations can contribute to reducing their carbon footprints by measuring, reducing, and offsetting them.
