5 Ways to Stay Healthy

by Paisley Hansen | 24-09-2021 10:08

Although it can be difficult to live a healthy lifestyle, it doesn't have to be if you start with small steps. Here are five ways to stay healthy in your everyday life.

1. Exercise

Exercising is one of the most effective ways to keep your physical and mental health in check. Some of the main benefits of exercising include:

  • Enhancing sleep quality

  • Protecting against chronic diseases

  • Improving mood and feelings of well-being

  • Boosting energy

  • Reducing the risk of heart disease

Exercising outside is ideal, as spending time in nature can regulate feelings of well-being and decrease anxiety and depression. If you've ever wondered why you tend to feel more sluggish in the winter, it could be due to lack of sunlight. You can also try exercising with a friend or family member, as this can make the experience more enjoyable and give you someone to hold you accountable for exercising every day.

2. Eat a Healthy Diet

As you've probably heard many times before, the food that you consume is directly related to your health. Therefore, it's essential that you eat a nutritious diet full of fruits, vegetables, protein and fiber. While this doesn't mean that you can never treat yourself to a tasty dessert, you should do so in moderation. Try to stay away from saturated fats, fried foods or refined sugars, as these can promote inflammation and raise your risk of developing diabetes.

If you feel like you're not getting enough vitamins and minerals from your diet, taking a supplement is a great way to give your body that extra boost. Whether you're aiming to support your overall health or looking to pinpoint a specific concern, there's a supplement for you. For example, vitamin B12 has been shown to support bone health, aid in the formation of red blood cells and prevent loss of neurons in the brain. Vitamin B12 is one of the primary ingredients found in the Thrive Patch, a transdermal delivery system that can support digestion and aid in weight loss. Some other popular supplements include omega-3s, vitamin D, probiotics and magnesium.

3. Use Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

If you want to stay healthy while also being environmentally friendly, using non-toxic cleaning products is the way to go. Did you know that the majority of cleaning products contain many harmful chemicals, such as antifreeze, formaldehyde and ammonia? These compounds have not only been shown to negatively affect the nervous system and cardiovascular system, but they can even disrupt brain chemistry.

The good news is that there are plenty of natural alternatives to choose from. The Environmental Working Group database is a great place to start, as it assigns letter grades to products based on their toxicity.

4. Stay Hydrated

This may sound like an obvious tip, but you'd be surprised at how easy it is to become dehydrated. In fact, 75% of Americans don't drink enough water. Although the amount of water you should drink depends on your height, weight and level of physical activity, doctors generally recommend that you drink 64 ounces a day. If you find it difficult to reach this goal, you can supplement with other hydrating drinks, such as:

  • Herbal tea

  • Sparkling water

  • Low-sodium broths

  • Smoothies

5. Get Enough Sleep

The importance of getting a good night's rest can't be overstated. Failing to get enough sleep will not only cause you to feel sluggish and unable to focus during the day, but it can also lead to high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic disease in the long term. If you're having trouble sleeping, try:

  • Turning off your electronics at least one hour before bed

  • Limiting daytime naps

  • Avoiding caffeine for at least six hours before bed

  • Turning down your thermostat

If you start with small steps, living a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be an overwhelming task. Implementing these five tips into your daily routine can help you to live a more fulfilling life.
