Zero Waste

by Maria Del Pilar Azan Quispe | 26-09-2021 13:04

What are the Peruvian government and its citizens doing to care for the environment and promote "Zero Waste"?

Peru's National Environmental Policy sets out the desired future situation by 2030, that the country should reduce the fragility of its ecosystems, conserve its biodiversity and recover ecosystem services, in such a way as to contribute to improving the quality of life of the people.

To achieve this, the objectives of the National Environmental Policy include the need to reduce the loss of biodiversity, improve solid waste management, and prioritize recycling as a solution. It is also proposed to achieve by 2030, a reduction in vulnerability to climate change, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and an improvement in the eco-efficiency of the production of goods and services, public and private, to move to a circular economy, which makes the most of resources; all this strengthened with improved governance, research and environmental education.

For these reasons, the Peruvian government is calling on citizens to participate in the implementation of the new National Environmental Policy through small enterprises.
One of the many examples is Luis Fernando Tello, CEO, and founder of "Zero Market Lima", a store that became aware of the 7 million tons of waste generated annually in Peru, and thus decided to contribute to the reduction of plastic packaging, transmitting their values and lifestyle through imparting good to society and the environment.
I hope to tell you more about these kinds of inspiring stories that change a community and the lives of its citizens!
