27th Ambassadorship Report
Free Report: September
Title: World Ozone Day 2021

Every year on September 16th, World Ozone Day is celebrated to raise public awareness of the ozone layer's depletion and possible solutions for its preservation. On this auspicious day, individuals from all around the world organize ozone layer seminars and awareness program. Students are taught about the advantages of the ozone layer by educators, and special events and activities are held to raise awareness at different levels. On 16th September, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed.

Without the ozone layer, life on Earth would be impossible. Ozone is a highly reactive gas found in the higher levels of the atmosphere. It is also known as the Ozone Shield because it protects life on Earth by absorbing the Sun's damaging UV rays. Ultraviolet radiation can induce a variety of skin conditions in human, animal and plant life.

'Montreal Protocol — keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool' is the theme of World Ozone Day 2021. According to the United Nations, this year's day highlights how the Montreal Protocol contributes to food security by delaying climate change and helping to increase energy efficiency in the cooling industry.

Scientists realized that mankind was tearing a hole in this protective layer in the late 1970s, and they sounded the alarm. Ozone-depleting gases (ODSs) used in aerosols and cooling, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, are responsible for the hole. It has the potential to increase skin cancer and cataract instances, as well as harm plants, agriculture, and ecosystems. World Ozone Day serves as a reminder to people to maintain momentum in order to ensure healthy people and a healthy world. The most recent Scientific Assessment on Ozone Depletion was finished in 2018. Since 2000, portions of the Ozone Layer have recovered at a pace of 1-3 percent each decade, according to this estimate. Even at current rates, ozone in the Northern Hemisphere and mid-latitudes will be entirely restored by the 2030s. In the 2050s, the Southern Hemisphere will follow, followed by the Polar Regions in the 2060s.

Let¡¯s see some of the UV Rays' Negative Effects
 - It is linked to the development of skin cancer.
- Skin burns as a result of UV radiation.
- Excessive UV exposure damages and weakens the immune system.
- Prolonged exposure to UV radiation destroys eye tissues and can result in 'snow blindness,' which is a 'burning' of the eye surface.
- UV rays hasten the skin's aging process.
- Several pigments absorb UV and change color, such as those used to color food, cloth, plastic, paint, ink, and dyes.

Some of the Preventative actions that can be taken to safeguard our planet Earth.
a. Hair sprays, fresheners, cosmetics, and aerosol in plastic containers that contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) should be avoided.
b. Encouraging hobbies such as tree planting and gardening in the backyard.
c. Using fertilizers that are good for the environment (organic fertilizers).
d. Avoid polluting the air by reducing the amount of smoke the car emits. Regular maintenance will also help to save money on fuel and crude oil.
e. Plastics and rubber tires should not be burned.
