Interest in Bird Conservation

The pandemic has resulted in myself being close to my late grandfather¡¯s bird pigeon. The bird is called Mr. Hur Hur and he does not want to fly away even if my family were to release him. He lives in my room, roaming around freely.

The habits you can observe from any animal is just interesting. All animals have their own personality, and Mr. Hur Hur is cute little grandpa himself. He is approximately 33 years old, with being bought in 1989. Pecking people is his hobby where he likes to creep up on people and do a little jump to surprise that said person. Collecting twigs is also another hobby, in which he would run around with his tiny legs.

I was not sure about handling a bird at first. But I wanted to spend time with Mr. Hur Hur as no one is there to give him more attention than just feeding him. So that was how I got close to Mr. Hur that started with just bringing him into my room.

I have understood birds better than I initially did, and my love for Mr. Hur Hur made me pay more attention to other bird species. It breaks my heart to see videos of birds that are in danger such as being tangled up in fishing lines causing their limbs to be in a bind. Many species of birds like the albatross are also mistaking plastic as food. That is why I became more interested in the conservation of birds.

I hope to pursue and involve myself in bird conservation. There is a lot of things that can be done, where amongst them is taking data on the population of a bird in an area. But besides that, the normal effort in conserving the environment (taking care of the environment) are more reinforced with a newer determination.
