The Drastic Effects of Climate Change

by Vyomm Khanna | 15-08-2021 21:34

Our world is drastically changing due to climate change. Sea levels are rising, Glaciers are melting, and temperatures are increasing. This article explores many effects of climate change, including those which are not so popular

Scientists¡¯ predictions regarding the effects of climate change are slowly coming true: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves. Global climate is projected to change drastically over the course of this century and beyond. The scale and extent to which climate change will impact the earth over the course of the next few decades depends primarily on the amount of greenhouse gases emitted globally, and the sensitivity of Earth¡¯s climate to those emissions. In a future in which heat-trapping gas emissions continue to grow, increases of a month or more in the lengths of the frost-free and growing seasons are projected across most of the world by the end of the century. The phenomena of droughts and heatwaves  everywhere are projected to become more intense. On the other hand, cold waves are projected to decrease in strength. The intensity, frequency and duration of hurricanes, as well as the frequency of the strongest typhoons, have all increased since the early 1980s (NASA). Global sea level has risen by about 8 inches since reliable record keeping began all the way back in the nineteenth century. The worst part is that it may rise another 1 to 8 feet by 2100 if we do not take drastic action. This is the horrifying product of added water from melting land ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms. Also, the arctic ocean may be wholly ice free within this century.

Thus, the effects of climate are harsh, and the increase in natural disasters and global temperatures will make life incredibly difficult for humans, and will lead to the extinction of countless species across the globe. It is in our hands now, to change our ways in order to preserve the earth and restore the ecosystem. I hope this article inspires you to lead the way and to have an impact.
