How to minimise energy wastage

by Vyomm Khanna | 15-08-2021 21:53

The age-old problem still persists to this day, and is arguably more important than ever ! This problem is that of energy wastage. With increasing prices of energy production, and excessive environmental impact, it is our duty to reduce the amount of energy we consume at home.

However, to do this, one does not necessarily have to purchase modern energy efficient products. In fact, energy saving is much easier than that, as we shall now explore. For example, instead of using an energy-heavy appliance like a dryer to dry your clothes, you can simply do the same task with the help of a blow-dryer, or by placing the clothes in the sunlight!

Heating and cooling costs constitute nearly half of an average home¡¯s utility bills, so these reductions in the intensity and frequency of heating and cooling would naturally help you to cut your bill in half, and would be most beneficial. This is why we must aim to minimise our use of thermostats, air conditioners and heaters during temperature-induced scenarios.

Traditional incandescent light bulbs consume an excessive amount of electricity and must be replaced more often than their energy efficient alternatives. Halogen incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), and light-emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) use anywhere from 25-80 percent less electricity and last 3 to 25 times longer than traditional (bulbs.www.energysage.com)

Another innovative solution is the use of smart air conditioners and temperature systems which have the potential to turn off after excessive use, especially the hours of the night, so that less electricity is wasted unnecessarily overnight.

As mundane as it sounds, windows play a larger role in our houses than just being transparent and nice to look at. DOuble paned windows can insulate a home effectively, the same way greenhouses do. This reduces the dependence on other heating appliances and central heating systems.

I hope this article has taught you a lot regarding the different methods of conserving energy and electricity, I hope each and every one of you will be looking forward to implement these yourself in order to have a beneficial impact towards our ecosystem !
