According to a study by the Department of Environment in 2017, 28 percent of petroleum vehicles are responsible for air pollution in Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, the level of 2.5 PM particles has been found up to five times the standard of the World Health Organization. According to the Global Air Report 2019, 42,100 people died in Nepal that year due to air pollution. The State of Global Air report 2020 places Nepal among the top 10 countries with the highest outdoor PM2.5 levels in 2019.Recently, cities including Kathmandu have appeared in the list of 'Air Quality Index' as the most polluted cities in the world. This should prompt the government to come up with an effective plan to immediately replace diesel petrol vehicles with electric vehicles.
