THEMATIC REPORT - HOW DO "GREEN VEHICLES" CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL CARBON NEUTRALITY?

by ANDREW AWUAH WIREKO | 07-07-2021 09:20

HOW DO "GREEN VEHICLES" CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL CARBON NEUTRALITY?

A " green vehicle", clean vehicle, eco - friendly vehicle or environmentally friendly vehicle, is a motor vehicle that produces less harmful impacts to the environment than comparable conventional internal combustion engine vehicles running on gasoline or diesel, or one that uses certain alternative fuels. (WIKIPEDIA).

While the fuel economy of new cars improves every year, a "green vehicle" is a vehicle that is even more environmentally friendly than gasoline or diesel - powered vehicles because it is powered by alternative fuel or electricity. While the vehicles benefit the environment, owners reap benefits too.

It is refreshing to note that the world is embracing "green vehicles". The demand for "green vehicles" keeps increasing. It is envisaged that, the use of "green vehicles" would be the way to go in the next 30 years and beyond. This is because, the development, promotion and the use of "green vehicles" have numerous benefits and advantages over vehicles powered by combusting fossil fuels.
Some of the benefits of "green vehicles" are :

(1) Low carbon dioxide emissions
(2) Improved air quality
(3) Reduced demand for renewables
(4) More sustainable consumption
(5) Decrease in noise pollution
(6) Decrease in oil spillage on the environment
(7) New and improved technology in "green vehicles" and their accessories

In recent times, investments in hydrocarbons are beginning to decline in many parts of the world because of the demand for "green vehicles" and environmentally friendly technologies in industry, across the world.
On the other hand, investments in "green vehicles" and other environmentally friendly technologies have been on the increase, the world over.

It is worth noting that developing and less endowed countries are also embracing "green vehicles". For example, according to media reports, my native country, Ghana, received and tried her first electric car, a few weeks ago.

Investments in "green vehicles" technology would help contribute to global carbon neutrality, since "green vehicles" would help reduce carbon emissions in the environment.
To achieve the  goal of carbon neutrality, the world should invest more in affordable, low carbon emission and environmentally friendly technologies in transportation, industry and other aspects of life.
Developing and poor countries should also be helped to acquire affordable and accessible "green vehicle" and other environmentally friendly technologies, in the efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

Climate change keeps having devastating effects on the globe. Current examples are the unusual rise in temperature ( about 50 degree Celsius), heat wave and bushfires in Vancouver, Canada., drought in parts of Mozambique and as well as the landslide in some parts of Japan as a result of heavy rain storms. It is believed that, these extreme weather conditions are as a result of climate change.

One of the several ways to achieve carbon neutrality is the promotion, production researching and more investments in "green vehicles".

"Green vehicles" would help contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), low carbon emissions, carbon neutrality and improvements in transportation and the environment.
