Upcycling and upscaling, they are very closely related. Representing Nepal, I would share some upcycling activities of Nepal. In context of Nepal, our grandmothers have habit of keeping everything so safe, even though it's more than 20/30 years. The best secure place for every goods would be in grandmother hand. Every goods including clothes, when I checked my grandmother wardrope I just can't imagine how the time was back then. She has everything being kept very safely. But, every goods has its own time period. Especially, those clothes would end up in the landfill, adding to the textile waste which is undesirable. This is story of every grandparents, may be the time would change from our generation since we have learnt and understood different upcycling activities. In Nepal, there's a company called 'HattiHatti' that upcycles saris into beautiful products by educating and training such women. This not only helps in preventing those clothes and goods from getting waste, but also aids in preventing different negative impact created by those products in landfill and atmosphere along with helps in empowering the people. This company has helped to empower women. The company makes a publicity on demand of those unused clothes especially "Saris", and collects them from people and upcycle them into different products. They wash, dry and iron collected saris and then sew to redesign into new valuable products. The products are purses, bags, clothes, rubber, etc. The tailor who sew the product are also promoted through their number in being labeled in the products. This not only helps in upcycling the products and empowering the women but also make promotion of the engaged tailors. This company has worked with the motto of growing together by supporting each other. Like the elephant has big heart, and this company also work with big heart and kindness. The name is also proposed accordingly i.e. "HattiHatti" which means Elephant in Nepali language. The earnings are used to women empowering activities through informal skill generating trainings and workshops. It was established in 2014, and by now, two women being engaged in it has opened their own shops already. Isn't this amazing? Because of some circumstances, I delayed in writing the report. Please, accept my sincere apology.
