(Thematic Report) Upcycling: A new way for environmental waste reduction

by Binita Suwal | 16-05-2021 21:44

I was thinking to share something about the simple upcycling I have done i.e. the terrarium. But when I was surfing through the internet, I found an article which is about 2 years old entitled with "Upscaling Upcycle" written by Sanghamitra Subba and published in Nepali Times on July 19, 2019; I actually dropped the plan and thought to share this article. The article is about the Young, Idealistic Nepali social entrepreneurs who have made and achieved amazing profile by creating the craft items from waste products. It has listed some of the handicraft industries and companies that actually work for reducing the waste from environment by Upcycling.

When I was scrolling down through the article, I was amazed with full of surprises. Here are the craft stores and their highlighted work listed in the articles.

1.

        Shailee Crafts

Shailee craft is a handicraft based company in Nepal. This craft store uses the horns and bones collected from butcher shops as raw material. The unwanted waste i.e. bones  are gathered, cleaned, cut, shaped and carved and finally converted into amazing and attractive craft items. Buttons, statues, pendants etc. from bones which otherwise is discarded at landfills sites, is the creative way to reduce waste by upcycling.
