Mountain Cleaning Campaign 2021

Mountain are the glory, pride and identity of Nepal. Many tourists from all across the world come to visit Nepal to see the mountains. Nepal is also called as the country of Mountains.But over a year there are alot of pollution at Mountains, there are maximum trash that are left by those who visit the mountains this has degraded the beauty of our mountains, threatening our Biodiversity and mammoth of climate changes, so to address the problems of waste in the himalayas, Mount Everest clean up campaign was organized in 2019 led by Nepal Army where the campaign successfully collected 10,300 kilograms of waste. So the tremendous success of this campaign has motivated them so this year Mountain Cleaning Campaign 2021  is being organized under the Leadership of Nepal Army with the support of various partners.
The teams deployed in the campaign with the noble objective of cleaning the six mountains including Mount Everest, are collecting waste materials in close cooperation and collaboration with the local government, concerned organizations and the locals. 

Team of 112 members comparising of experienced sherpas and Nepal Army are conducting clean up campaign at 6 biggest mountain of Nepal. The campaign is one of its kind, and boasts multi-partner collaboration between Government, Private Sector and Non-Government sector partners like Ministry of Forests and Environment, Coca-Cola Nepal, Unilever, ICIMOD, WWF Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Distilleries, Polymet Sa S Pte Ltd, Yeti Airlines, PlastNepal Foundation and more. The campaign will collect 35,000 kg of waste from Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Pumori, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Makalu and Mt Dhaulagiri. The waste will be transported and managed in Kathmandu by Avni Ventures as the waste will be recycled.

(Forty- three Nepali army personnel with Sixty-Seven Sherpa supporters target to collect 35tons of waste from these peaks.
Mt Everest- 16 tons
Mt Lhotse- 1 ton
Mt Pumori-3 tons
Mt Makalu-5 tons
Mt Ama Dablam- 5 tons
Mt Dhaulagiri- 5 tons)


Some major Campaign Highlights:

Milestone 1- Preparatory phase like learning skills as Rock craft, Ice Craft, Medical Assistances and Rescue
Milestone 2- Logistic Build Up
Milestone 3- Nepali army team moving to their respective bases, trekking, acclimatization
Milestone 4- Cleaning and collection of the waste begin around a different altitude of the mountains.
Milestone 5- Collected wastes from the respective mountains are brought back to KTM
Milestone 6-Collected non-biodegradable waste are handed to the waste management Company on World Environment Day
