Garden in My Home

Food that is grown and harvested by one¡¯s own hand creates a certain satisfaction that reflects on the effort in growing the crop. I have herb plants at different gardens at my home. I would harvest them when I need certain ingredient in my cooking. I mostly would take a couple of lime leaves and bay leaves as the trees have ample of leaves. I have other herbs such as lemongrass, rosemary, leeks, red onion, and turmeric. Its great in cases of emergency when I run out of the supermarket bought herbs. These herbs do not grow amply thus the need to still buy herbs.

My mother is the one who loves plants, and I would be the one who harvest herb plants to be used in our food. There are all types of plants in our home. My mother particularly likes plants that produce food in which are fruit trees, so we have mango trees, a star fruit tree, a java apple tree, banana plants, pomegranate trees, and others. On the other hand, I simply like flowers and herb plants. Even though I do not take care of the plants at our home, seeing my mother being passionate about plants puts a smile on my face.

Since I am a biology student, I am bound to have friends that are passionate about plants too and I have one. He likes Indonesia¡¯s endemic plants, specifically corpse flower plants like Rafflesia arnoldii. He also has a preference for decorative plants, in particular talas or taro plants. I know all this because he passionately explains them whenever we exchange plants.

People who are passionate in certain things and dabble in it intrigue me. I experience and saw first hand how people who like plants would barter the plants they have in any chance that they get. Sometimes its funny to me as I do not particularly have an interest in plants, but people who barter plants just shows how passionate they are with plants. Since plants grow in quantity as they reproduce, they can be given to other people while we still have the same plant that is given to others. So the plants in our home has been given to people, whilst our collection also increases from receiving plants from other people
