Consumption of non-vegetarian food products (Part 2)

by Aneira Pereira | 18-04-2021 05:23

I will be focusing on two major arguments against the consumption of non-vegetarian food product:

  1. Vegetarianism is the sustainable option as it ensures better human health

  2. Quitting consumption of non- vegetarian food can help combat socio-economic problems

  • How do you think it would be if you piled up trash in your house for a month? Eating meat does something similar to your body. When a human being consumes 1 pound of meat, it takes the body 72 hours to completely digest it. The organs of the digestive system then begin to stock toxic waste within the folds of your body hence forcing your kidneys to get over worked. Does that sound like something you¡¯d want? On the other hand, a pound of plant food would get digested in mere hours. Why then ladies and gentlemen would you want to kill yourself by continuing to stick to animal food simply because it tickles your taste buds? No.

  • Secondly, when cattle are killed and turned into food, only 12 percent of those calories make their way into the human diet as meat. That¡¯s a whopping two-thirds drop in the number of calories that could have been available to humans. It takes about 13 pounds of grain to produce a single pound of meat. All that grain would go a long way toward feeding the hundreds of millions of people—many of them children—who don¡¯t have enough to eat. Hence, with rising global food and water insecurity due to a myriad of environmental and socio-economic problems, there's never been a better time to adopt a more sustainable way of living- meat less diet. Avoiding non-vegetarian products is not just one of the simplest ways an individual can reduce the strain on food as well as other resources, it's THE simplest way to take a stand against inefficient food systems which disproportionately affect the poorest people all over the world.

If side opposition can give us one reason to justify the mass murder of 68 billion chickens. 656 million turkeys, 573 million sheep and 479 million goats then we¡¯ll forfeit from this debate. But if not I¡¯d like this to serve as a reminder to you, my worthy opponents of the side opposition, that you have the blood of 68 billion chickens on your hands.
