Impact assessment of the cleanliness campaign

by Sandhya Adhikari | 17-04-2021 13:59

Back to few month, our team has started a campaign with the theme ¡°Green Paklihawa; Clean Paklihawa¡±. The programme was initiated by the Youth Endeavour for Sustainable Agriculture working for the betterment of the environment and agriculture sector in collaboration with IAAS Paklihawa campus and Tunza Eco Generation Regional Ambassador. I had been engaged with this organization since 3 years and ever tried to prioritize for the environmental protection and work for the both agriculture and environment protection. It was a most tough as well as challenging task for us to plan, organize and simultaneously carry out our programme.  With the aim to aware people about the negative impact of the haphazard solid waste disposals, landfills, minimize escalating solid waste disposal on the public place and the religious  place, We went to the collage administration discussed our proposal with Campus Chief about the alarming waste in the vicinity of our collage and accordingly we planned for the  mass cleanliness campaign, demonstration, street drama and dustbin distribution in the collage area. This plan was also appreciated by the local government and Mayor of siddharthanagar municipality was also present as a chief guest for supporting our programme.

Our University has its own story, it was firstly an Army quarter as it is located at the border site of India and Nepal. Nepalese Army has constructed many infrastructure including buildings, temples, swimming pool, research lab in our university and later Nepalese Army has handed this university to the Tribhuvan University at 2016 B.S. After then the natural beauty, importance place has been enormously polluted by  the local people and every one. They has just made the pool site as the dumbing site, landfill areas and the collage seems to be the polluted spot everywhere wrappers of plastics and solid waste from the house. The glass bottle alcoholic beverage were found here and there along with plastics. This used to temper us at first,  but we could only see such condition without doing anything. Previously also many cleanliness camping was carried out by various organization but has only last for a day or a week. No follow up was carried out for the impact assessment, post monitoring and evaluation of the proposed plan and campaign was not carried out which was  one of the reason for the failure of the plan. So this time we planned differently for the cleanliness campaign  i.e we will carry out the follow up of the campaign at every month, post evaluation and the monitoring of the campaign will be done and we did the same. The most polluted spot has now changed into the most attractive place for the visitor. Our collaboration has created huge impact. For this we appreciate our campus chief Dr. Ram Bhajan Mandal, Assistant professor Subodh Khanal for the continuous support, work and making the plan into action. The proposed site will be now used as the ornamental fish culture site, fish therapy site by Nile Tilapa fish. And we are glad to see our campaign creating such a positive impact at University.

This success is due to the dedication and vision of our university, our respected professors, our team and every helping hand who helped directly and indirectly. This is an absolutely proud moment for me and my team to see the success and positive impact of the proposed project. We also assure that we will carry out such a remarkable campaign in coming days too.

(The detail of the programme that we did was already mentioned at my previous report). Here I am presenting some picture of polluted site before our campaign and result of after campaign.
