Businesses are Affecting Environment

by Amit Hassan | 21-03-2021 02:50

The environment can influence business, or the environment can be influenced by business. About affecting the environment, a business can work both on positive and negative sides.

Considering ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) can ensure a positive effect for any business. It helps to achieve sustainable development goals as well.

Surely businesses should follow the government's environmental policies and push further to help Mother Earth become an important factor for consumers.

Earth is being affected dangerously by global warming, ozone gases, air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution etc. All these are results of reckless economic activities/businesses.

There are many reckless ways of doing business by whom the earth is being affected badly. Plastic pollution is one of them. Nowadays, the effects of plastic pollution are indescribable. Biodiversity is in the final stage of destruction. Living beings are disappearing by eating plastics. The sea, river, and pond are getting depleted. Reckless business decisions are the most responsible for plastic pollution.

For example, by looking over plastic, global production of plastic has topped 320 million metric tons per year. According to a report by Break Free from Plastic, of the 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic produced since the 1950s, only 9% has been recycled. The rest of it ends up in landfills, rivers, oceans, or other parts of the environment. We increasingly see images of wildlife suffering the consequences.

Here are mentioned top five companies which are generating plastic waste the most:

1.     1. Coca Cola

Coca-Cola was the most prolific, found in 40 of 42 countries. More than 75% of all 239 participating cleanups reported finding Coca-Cola branded products along their coasts, shorelines, parks, and streets.

2    2.PepsiCo

3. Nestle

According to the report, the top three companies, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Nestle, accounted for 14% of the branded plastic pollution found worldwide.

4. Danone

The French multinational food-products corporation is based in Paris; brands include Dannon, Activia, Oikos, Silk, and Evian.

5.Mondelez International

Mondelez is an American multinational confectionery, food, and beverage company based in Illinois. Brands include Oreos, Ritz, Halls, Cadbury, Nabisco, Trident, Tang, and Triscuits.

On the other hand, some other companies set examples to reduce plastic waste, such as Nike successfully manufactured Space Hippie sneakers from recycled plastic bottles and waste material from textile factories.

Some other companies Tridi Oasis, Close the Loop Operations, Sadako Technologies are recycling plastic. Other companies want to help cut plastic out of life. These businesses are creating plastic alternatives for everything from straws to reusable bags. As example: Truman's, Stasher, Final Straw, Abeego, Revolution Bag, Terra Cycle.

Making money by doing business is possible for both considering environmental issues or not. So, It is crucial how business decisions are making because making the decision by considering environmental issues affects the environment positively, which helps achieve sustainable development goals. Otherwise, the earth and environment will be debris.
