They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. The month has brought for us warm sunny days. Our planet has finally turned its frostbitten cheeks into golden strokes of sunbeams. But what March also brings for us is 'International Day Of Action for Rivers'. Celebrated on 14th March, this project successfully educates everyone around us about the importance of rivers in our lives. Human civilization has survived throughout the years by depending on rivers for both personal and professional use. While we already know how rivers affect our personal usage, professional usage might me foreign to many. 

So how exactly do business affect rivers? From the moment a corporation or a business is set, to the moment it starts its production, every step is linked with water. From using rivers as raw material for water to dumping processed water waste, rivers walk hand in hand with businesses. Many of these steps might be hazardous to the natural resource, that is why, corporative meetings are required to take in environmental impact in consideration while making any form of decisions. These decisions are also subjected to government screening. Nevertheless, there isn't only businesses that benefit from the water bodies. Government aided NGOs and youth setups also exist for the welfare of water bodies.

For example, in India, 'Help us green' is a startup that started its journey by collecting about eight tons of floral waste around Ganga's hub in Varanasi and about 1.5 tons near Kanpur. At present, it collects about 2.4 tons of floral waste from temples and river base on a daily basis. It then composts this waste and uses it to make products, such as charcoal free and bambooless incense sticks and fertilizers. This startup also helps local communities by providing employment to 1,200 rural families who work to collect the waste and roll it into incense sticks. By this, unemployment ratio is decreased and national economy rises. Since unemployed individuals become a liability to the society, increasing employment facilities while saving the enviornment becomes a power move.

This project has been successful and been entirely self-sufficient. Its founders planned to grow the business further and open up seven new hubs with a plan to collect 15 to 20 tons of waste. They’re also working on expanding their product line to include bathing products and organic styrofoam. Help Us Green is also in the process of developing many methods to convert waste flowers to bio-ethanol, which can be used as fuel. This fuel is colorless and biodegradable, not to forget that it produces little smoke compared to other fossil fuels. Help Us Green plays a huge part in government aided project such as Clean Ganga.

Many such projects exist for the well fare of enviornment and are supported financially by both government and private organizations. However, public support matters the most, for it is, the society that needs to cherish the our resources and prevent any form of pollution.
