Corporate Social Responsibility

Business can effect the environment, as certain products consumed by people may have their packaging ending up at the sea. As an example is glass bottles that are not re-used. There is such a company in Indonesia, where there are many glass bottles that ends up in the river. I know this through a Tik Tok video, where the glass bottles are collected at a recycling center in Bali. There is also the problem of plastic bottles, plastic bags and sachets that ends up in the sea.

Consumers may be the one to throw away a product¡¯s plastic packaging carelessly, but nevertheless it is still a company¡¯s manufactured product. That is why companies are demanded to take responsibility, which is known as corporate social responsibility (CSR). The forms of CSR are various, it can be to help clean up the trash on the beach, to help plant trees, and so on.

I personally like CSR that involves trash drop off points that are located at specific spots. These drop off points are meant to collect back the trash a company produce. As an instance is plastic bottles, where a certain company will collect plastic bottles manufactured by them as a result of their water bottle packaging. They also allow the bottles to be a product of a different company. These plastic bottles are then recycled and made into another new plastic bottle.

The examples I have given are actually from the same company. It is a renowned water bottle company in Indonesia. On one hand, there is the news of the glass bottles they produce ending up in the rivers. However on the other hand, they made efforts in recycling their plastic bottles into a new and different water bottle packaging. It is quite confusing. I do hope that they would later create a system in picking up their used glass bottles and reuse them. This is possible, as other beverage companies have already done so.
