Viola indica Lai called as Ghatte Ghans is a medicinal plant. This is called as Indian violet in English. It is distributed in South Asian Regions like Himalchal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and many other places. This is a perennial herb and is stoloniferous. It is about 5-12 cm tall. Roots are rhizomatous, slender, short, stout and densely articulated. Stolons leafy and flowering upto 20 cm long.

The stem is absent or acaulescent. Leaves are simple, basal, ovate-lanceolate to ovate oblong. Flowers are bisexual, zygomorphic, violet it purplish with dark striations and fragrant. Viola indica belongs to violaceae family. The whole plant liquid of this plant is used to treat cough and cold. It helps to relive dry cough and supports to keep lymph moving, and also soothes sore throats. It can be used in tea, syrup and food. Sweet violet (Viola odorata), when you drink with tea, it's found to be good for nervous system. This species is unappreciated but is a vital tonic herb. Salicylic acid, one of its ingredients found I'm the fresh parts of the plants, acts as a disinfectant and tissue solvent, which can be applied on the skin texture to soften the hard skin.

But if it's used excessively may cause hypersensitivity and dermatitis. So, let's understand the advantages of the plants and use it in proper way and in sustainable way.
