Dine-in at Restaurants

Dine-in at Restaurants

Reducing plastic consumption is a crucial step in helping reduce the amount of plastic trash in the world. This step can be taken by simply dining in at a restaurant or to bring our own container for takeout food. I understand that with the current pandemic, it would be hard to dine in. But every small effort still counts. This especially applies for take-out drinks.

Fast food outlet would provide different service depending whether the costumer say they would be dining in or taking the food to go. When people dine in, of course the food and drink would be served on plates and in glasses. However, for take-out the food and drink would be packed in take away containers made out of cardboards that has a thin coat of plastic inside it. Not to mention the cover for these take away cups that are made of plastics. There are also some food outlets that use cups made fully from plastic.

I like to dine-in just to reduce my plastic consumption. But if it is not possible, we have reusable containers in the car just in case we want to buy something to go. Street food stall sellers are usually happy when we buy food to go using our own reusable container. The reason is because the seller would then be able to save some expenses for the single-use container, in the sense that they get the benefit from it. These street food stall seller often uses containers from styrofoam, so by bringing our own container we had at least stopped meaningless trash to be made.
