Waste Stations

Waste Stations

Companies have placed different waste collection stations at certain location. Before the pandemic, I had found one at a train station. After that, I did not go out often and I especially do not use public transportation to minimize contact with other people. So I do not know how that waste collection station is doing. The waste collection station at the train station was for electronic waste.

I had found another waste collection station at a known hotel in the heart of Jakarta. The station at the hotel collects used batteries, maybe from the hotel and the people who stay there. I also found another collection station when I visited my apartment and went to the grocery store there. This station collects any type of recyclable trash. But what concerns me is the condition these trashes are collected. Most of the recyclable trashes in the stations are still in dirty conditions, and I know that this would make it hard for workers to recycle these trashes.

Dirty trashes that are supposed to be processed can later cause problem, and I do not think anyone wants to clean dirty smelly trashes. Making eco bricks for example have to use clean plastic sachet. A dirty plastic sachet can cause the eco brick to be smelly or allow fungus to grow inside the eco brick. This in turn would not be sustainable for the creation of an eco brick. I hope that people would later be aware in the importance of making sure that their trash are clean first before deciding to donate them to be further recycled.
