Plant protection officer inspects the field at the proper growth stage, inspect plant products, regulation and clearance of propagative plant material. In order to mitigate plant and animal pests and diseases, plant protection officer plants and conducts different trials including disinfection, sterilization, fumigation, cold treatment, hot water treatment, irradiation efficiently.

As Plant Protection Officer, they use her experience and encourage more growers for the utilization and adopt a holistic approach to plant health and biosecurity, supporting businesses to demonstrate best practice in container and field production. This approach encompasses irrigation, nutrition, plant hygiene, weed control, soil health and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). They are the legal consultant and intelligent agent.  The plant officer makes legal assessments. These assessments relate to a variety of issues such as property rights, and compliance with administrative laws, and so on.

They are responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of plant protection measures.

They are the officially authorized body for carrying out certification of the export of the product. They provide technical advice which affects the international, interstate, and intrastate movement of crops, agricultural products, equipment and packing material. They handle the programs to check the post entry quarantine, natural control of the pests and control the noxious weeds. They carry out inspections, prepare and implements compliance agreements, execute policies regarding quarantine, and recognize inspection sites. They provide specialized predeparture quarantine inspection for non-routine passenger baggage situations. They provide recommendations to the supervisor and staff on design and development guidelines, operational standards and procedures; drafts proposals or work plans and financial plans. They collect, compile and review data to track the progress of the programs for which the incumbent is responsible in order to advance program operations and ensure quality assurance of program activities. The Plant Quarantine Officer seize plant or plant product if anybody gives wrong description of plant or plant product in application submitted under section, seize plant or plant product if anybody acts against the prohibition or restriction imposed under section.

So, plant protection officer is of utmost necessary to adopt sustainable agriculture.
