What are the duties of a Wildlife Veterinarian?

Wildlife veterinarians are important part of the conservation of wild animals. The major duty of wildlife veterinarian are:

- performing examination of sick animals,

- giving vaccinations,

They work from assisting captive breeding to caring young animals abandoned by their parents. They are assisted by well-trained veterinary technician and wildlife officials. Wildlife veterinarians also conduct research on animals for betterment and enhancing the animal health. Wildlife veterinarian can also be categorised according to size of animals (small or large) they treat. Those dealing with large animals are called large animal vets and other one called small animal vets. I am a veterinary undergrad at 3rd year and I have aim to be an wildlife veterinarian so as to serve to these valuable creatures in forest.

In Nepal, one new wildlife veterinary hospital is established in Chitwan which is a positive sign from government side for all the peoples involved in the conservation and protection of wildlife. We must all give respect to all the wildlife veterinarian as we give to human doctor, this can definitely encourage them working in this field.
