{Thematic report}Rwanda's environmental regulation or infrastructure

by Kevin RUSAGARA IRAGUHA | 26-12-2020 05:12

Rwanda's environment regulations and infrastructure
Rwanda is considered a multi diverse ecosystem country.
There are natural ecosystems consisting of Savannah forests, gallery forests, mountain rain-forests, wetland and aquatic forests, wood and other agro-ecosystems.

The protection and management of the environment of Rwanda were among the pillars of vision 2020. The government of Rwanda had an objective of having built a nation in which the pressure on natural resources like land, water, biomass and other bio-diversities to have been substantially and significantly reduced and also the process of environmental pollution and degradation to have been reversed.

And it planned that Rwanda would be a nation in which the management and protection of these resources and environment were more well regulated and rational in order to preserve the future generations the basic wealth necessary for sustainable development of the country.

And for this case, Rwanda put in place this Environment policy that aimed at the following 3 objectives as given by the Rwanda Environment and Management Authority however there are other many but these seem to be specific:

1) To improve the health and the quality of life for every citizen and promote socio-economic development through rational management and utilisation of resources and environment
2) To conserve, preserve, and restore ecosystems and maintain ecological systems functions which are life supporting particularly to the conservation of national biological diversity
3) To create awareness among the public to understand and appreciate the relationship between the environment and development.

But though all these objectives clearly concerned the environment policy of Rwanda, but the overall objective was the improvement of man's well being, the proper utilization of resources especially natural ones and the protection and rational management of ecosystems for sustainable development.
And now that the vision 2020 of Rwanda was extended, the environment's policy objectives were also extended though most of the objectives were achieved but Rwanda still has a long journey and struggle to fight and win and we believe as Rwandans we are all in this together.

Green cheers!!
