Air Pollution in Ghana.

Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere. Household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities and forest fires are common sources of air pollution.

Causes of air pollution in Ghana.

These particles can come from many sources, including car exhaust, factories and even wildfires. Some of the particles and gases come directly from these sources, but others form through chemical reactions in the air.

        The Burning of Fossil Fuels.

        Industrial Emission.

        Indoor Air Pollution.

        Wildfires.

        Microbial Decaying Process.

        Transportation.

        Open Burning of Garbage Waste.

 

Effects of air pollution

It increases the risk of respiratory infections, heart disease and lung cancer. Both short- and long-term exposure to air pollutants have been associated with health impacts. More severe impacts affect people who are already ill. [15 Nov 2019] and here are some of the effects listed below.

Since, air is one of the important aspects of every living thing, here are some suggested solutions to reduce air pollution.

         Minimize air pollution from cars.

        Walk, bike or use public transportation.

        Save energy.

        Maintain your wood stove or fireplace.

        Recycle & buy recycled products.

        Consume less & choose sustainable products.

        Eat local, organic produce & less meat.

        Grow your own food.
