Electro mobility or e-mobility uses electric powered technologies. We usually are using carbon emitting fossil fuels. But now we are switching over to electrical power sources through external charging capabilities. The use of fully electric, plug-in hybrid as well as hydrogen fueled vehicles form the e-mobility transportation. We can expect to see more and more driverless cars on roads very soon. These electronic motor innovations has paved way for us to make the best use of it. This advantage is available due to various factors such as a dip in the price of batteries, more and more advancement in alternative fuels and many other technical/technology developments and advancements.

UAE has launched sustainable mobility. They have the trial runs of both hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and battery electric also. As you all know that UAE sees very high temperature in summer. During the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2018, a zero emission bus that was designed specifically for hot climatic conditions was unveiled. It was manufactured in UAE. The body of the eco bus was made with a lightweight aluminum and is an all electric vehicle. It has maximum space efficiency as water cooled batteries are located at its rear end. Apart from that it uses temperature resistant. There are many other features of the bus such as it has a low entry floor which allows the passengers to board the bus easily, number of seats with appropriate standing room for passengers, range of up to 150 km per charge. Many governments are coming up with innovations and designs for future sustainable public transport. The prototype of the eco bus was developed by Masdar and Hafilat industry in partnership with technology partner Siemens.

Have you heard the term PRT?

Personal Rapid Transit was introduced by Masdar way back in 2010. PRT is a public transport mode. This is also referred as podcars or railed taxis. These are small automated vehicles. It operates on a network of specially built guideways. Masdar is also looking for various extension to PRT.

Actually the design of the eco bus was initiated taking into consideration various factors such as:

1.     Battery usage

2.     Materials used for manufacture

3.     Energy consumption

4.     Environmental impact

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is another technology solution for the environmental challenges faced by UAE. UAE is gradually detaching from the usage of fossil fuel to the hydrogen refilling station. Many are relying on electric power as promotion of fuel cell electric vehicles are increasing. As you can see that more and more renewable energy is being used by all of us over the world but the problem is that it needs a vector to transport and also store them. The ideal storage solution is hydrogen. This will play a vital role in the field of transportation.
