She Did It

A lot of great things are being done by good people to make the environment very sustainable and stable for us and the generation coming after us. Plans have been laid down to help reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and a lot of countries have signed up to be part of it which is very good and encouraging. When we talk of individual activities that enhance Eco-Friendly Mobility, I present Bernice Dapaah, a lady who has been very influential on Eco-Friendly Mobility in Ghana. Yes I said Lady, this is to say that women when encouraged could really help solve problems in the environment. Considering a developing country like Ghana, maintaining or having a system which would ensure mobility in every aspect of life is really difficult.

Bernice sat down in her village and thought of how children were suffering to get to school. The children had to travel several kilometers on their feet to get to school. Tired learners can¡¯t concentrate in class and this makes the learners yield very poor results at the end of their final examination. So Bernice came up with this amazing idea which brought not ease in transport for the children in her village but also to the environment and it is making her a lot of money. She has created a job out of it where she employs close to twenty workers for every branch she opens. Her system has been approved and used by many international bodies in the world including the UN where Ban Ki-moon came all the way to Ghana to use her system.

Bernice invented the bamboo bike. A bike is made from bamboo (wood). Bamboo is in copious in Ghana, they harvest the bamboo and plant thousands in place of it and use it for the master craft bike which is very durable and strong. This bike is friendly to the environment, it poses no harm to the environment because the whole structure is 90% wood. Wood can easily decompose when disposed and this makes it her bike preferable to me than the ones made from metals. She has received a lot of awards for this initiative of hers and she is a green lady helping her community to improve through green means and for that I give her a green cheers.

The bicycles are available for sale in the country and outside as well, so if you are thinking of getting a new bike, consider the bamboo bike which I think is the best.

Green Cheers.
