Tematic report: Environmental Movies

by Adan Ojeda Villa | 20-10-2020 09:47

For the theme of the month of October, I chose to write my report based on a documentary "Kiss the ground" which is available on the Netflix platform.
This green documentary is about one of the main environmental problems and an important factor that contributes negatively to the problem of climate change, desertification and soil erosion. Agriculture is very important throughout the world, so the land has been exploited for food production and livestock since man learned to cultivate and raise livestock, the overexploitation of soils led to erosion, which causes plants that do not grow or can be used for cultivation, this means that there will be no way to capture the carbon dioxide stored in the atmosphere by greenhouse gases, therefore the heat can be more overwhelming and droughts can last even for years, since the land is not healthy, it has been overworked and one of the factors that leads to erosion in the same way is plowing the land with heavy machinery, in addition to the exploitation of livestock in dry areas, without pasture.
This documentary offers a broad panorama of problems derived from poor soil management, but also offers a series of regenerative solutions that have already begun to be implemented. The alternatives for sustainable agriculture is permaculture, which is a permanent green agriculture, to achieve this, machinery with environmentally friendly technology must be used to avoid plowing the land. Pasture livestock production, manure, urine and cattle hooves will make grass grow, and this in turn will make plants can absorb CO2, herbivores can remove carbon and reverse desertification. A resident ecosystem where different seeds are sown has won, and therefore insects, worms. bacteria and a myriad of microorganisms provide health to the soil. The composition based on organic waste is also a positive alternative for soils and is very feasible to do.
I chose this documentary because I did not know much about the importance of soil and its correct management, and it really exceeded my expectations. It is clear that we ourselves are bringing our planet to a very critical point, but we also have the solution to many of these problems. If we all come together to make a safe change, we will be in time to prevent future environmental catastrophes. It is also important to know what foods we are consuming and where they come from, we must choose well and that they come from farms where sustainable models for production are implemented, because, if the soil is healthy, the crops and livestock will be, and therefore we also when consuming it. One of the messages that most caught my attention was when they explain the importance of responsible and healthy consumption, "" Do we degenerate or regenerate the land when buying? ".
