  Cat (Domestic cat):- Scientific name:- Felis catus.
Description:- Cats are small carnivorous mammals that belong to the family "Felidae" and are the only domesticated species in the family. They are often referred to as the "domestic cats" to distinguish them from the wild members of the family. It is believed that the domestic cats have been part of households for more than 4,000 years. The ancient Egyptians loved them and many of them were buried with their cats from that time period. Cats were first said to be domesticated in the Near East around 7500 BC. Characteristic features:- All cats have evolved with particularly keen senses of hearing, sight and smell. They have developed a wide range of coat colors – under natural conditions, these are adaptations to allow the cat camouflage and assist its hunting lifestyle. The domestic cat typically has a long and lean body. They have very long tails. They have small skulls and very tiny teeth. They are fast and agile animals with the ability to climb and to jump. They can have sharp claws. With very good vision and hearing the domestic cat is easily able to recognize what is going on in its surroundings. When they sense fear, retreating is very common in them.
Most domestic cats are very independent and they spend a great deal of time relaxing in the sunlight or napping. They are very playful as kittens but as they get older, they seem to lose their playfulness. They tend to rub the sides of their heads, necks, cheeks on the owner, doorways or on some furnitures as a way of showing affection or marking their territory. Cats sometimes purr to calm themselves down when sick, stressed, or injured. Purring releases endorphins that can reduce pain, and the small vibrations can even help with healing. Most cats are neatniks and spend up to 50 percent of their awake time indulging in some form of cat grooming. Every cat has its own grooming ritual, but most begin with the licking of the mouth, chin, and whiskers first.
The domestic cat is able to live just about anywhere. They do well in all types of climates. Some of them are indoor cats and others live outdoors. There are many owners that allow them to come in and out at their leisure. These animals have the freedom to roam and to explore.
The lifespan of the domestic cat can range significantly. Some of them only live a couple of years due to injuries or disease. Those having loving owners who tend to their needs, can easily live for 15 years. The genetic profile of a cat though often determines the quality of life. Many of them have a tendency to suffer from ailments including arthritis, loss of hearing, or loss of sight. It is said that cats have some healing power as all cats are empowered to remove accumulated negative energy from your body on a daily basis.
