How You Can Make a Real Difference By Going Green

by Jenn Lee | 01-10-2020 11:56

If you want to make a real difference in your life and the world, going green is a great place to start. Not only can you ensure that you are living a healthier life, but you can also support the future health and wellbeing of the planet. Make the commitment to your wellbeing and the environment, and you may be surprised at the improvements that you are seeing through many different parts of your life. Here are a few areas where you can make a real difference by going green.

Choose Renewable Energy Over Finite

Reducing your impact on the environment can start at home with the energy sources you use. Many homes were built to use finite energy sources; however, by installing a solar panel system and using more renewable energy sources, you can significantly reduce the amount of energy that you use from finite sources. Not only is this a positive change that you can make to benefit the earth, but you can actually lower your utility bills and expenses over time as you harness the natural power of the sun.

Eat Less Meat and More Vegetables

For many adults, eating meat is a typical part of each day; however, this does not have to be the case. You can support a healthier planet by eating less meat and consuming more plant-based products. The reality is that not everyone can or wants to become a vegetarian or vegan; however, by shifting your diet to include more plant-based products and fewer animal products, you can do your part. Consider starting small by introducing plant-based products periodically or by opting for a meatless Monday weekly. This can also improve your diet and physical health. Consistently consuming animal products can harm the environment and is not always the best choice for your body, but with small shifts to your diet, you can improve your health and the world around you

Reduce One-Time-Use Items

Many homes use a significant amount of one-time-use products, from soap dispensers to plastic bags to water bottles which leads to a lot of waste. This is an easy part of your life that you can change. If you are buying small bottles of hand soap, consider what a bulk size and a reusable soap dispenser could do for you. Not only can you choose a design to fit your aesthetic appeal, but the bulk sizes are often significantly cheaper. By replacing your one-time-use items with reusable alternatives, you can significantly lower your waste, reduce your expenses and increase aesthetic appeal.

Replace Your Cleaning Products

If you buy the same cleaning product out of habit, it may be time for a change. Many cleaning products have volatile organic compounds that can prove to be incredibly harmful to us, and especially to the children and pets. Not only are VOCs harmful to living creatures, but they also damage the planet. You can reduce the VOCs in your home by replacing your traditional cleaning products with a green alternative so that your home is still fresh and clean without being detrimental to the environment.

Evaluate Your Purchasing Practices

If shopping is another area of your life where you follow a routine, you may want to evaluate your purchasing practices. Many big retailers and vendors can cause significantly more damage to the environment than any one individual; however, you may not be aware of this without doing your due diligence and research. If you want to make a real commitment to the environment and the planet¡¯s health, it is time to also evaluate where your money is going and who it supports. You can help the planet by supporting businesses that are committed to sustainability, shopping less and buying local. All of these can have a positive impact on the planet.

The Main Point

Getting serious about going green is a multistep process, and this all starts in your personal life. Take some time to determine where in your life you can make some positive change and start improving the world around you. Many of these changes can lead to a happier, healthier life, so you need to start making those changes today.
