how Ethiopia is dealing with Ecosystem changes due to climate change.

by Bethlehem Tesfu Estifanos | 20-09-2020 09:56

Ethiopia had some issues with climate changes that caused drought and more which caused environmental change.

We in Ethiopia, we use trees to make homes and for fire log too, which is not good for the environment and we started to loss our trees.

Last year we began a movement called GREEN LEGACY which here we call it ¡° Arenguade ashara¡±  which changed a lot of our country.

On July 29th 2019 the Green Legacy Campaign in Ethiopia has reached the record of 353,633,660 tree seedlings planted in 12 hours across the country to save Ethiopia from environmental degradation.

I myself-participated in the movement. I still remember it like it happened yesterday.  It was rainy day but it stopped no one, everyone from young to old came together to plant there tree.

For me, it should me that change happen in the little movement we do. That day I planted 5 trees and I used to see them every time I went to school and came back, the amazing part is that every time I see them I feel like they are my babies but I got to understand that they are not mine only, they are yours and everyone¡¯s who is passing and breathing in this world. That was an amazing connection to have with the world.

Our Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed launched the Second Green Legacy Campaign on 5 June 2020. Because covid-19 of we couldn¡¯t get out together but we planted any plant we want on our front door or any place, and the fact even covid-19 didn¡¯t stop us from making our mark is something to be proud of.

If we all who is in this world join us in our movement, I am sure we will heal our environment and climate. Change starts with us; this movement should not me only Ethiopians but also the worlds too.

I know we are hearing bad news like forests being burned and people losing homes but we can replace what we loss if we all plant one plant each to our community. Let us all make the coming year better by just simple act.

Next year, I invite you to our green legacy to plant one plant in your hometown and make your mark with us.
