There is an app for that!

Sustainable lifestyle has always been a sweetheart of app developers. During the pandemic I decided to install some apps to see if I can better my sustainable living, I wasn¡¯t disappointed. It is unfortunate that some of these apps are mainly for the US and Canada markets but still relevant to us, nonetheless. Let¡¯s look at some of them.

RecycleNation: It is an app that will find the closest recycling center near you and help you recycle products that might be hazardous otherwise such as batteries. I was sad to see that they had no Bangladeshi companies in their database hope they do in the future. You just need to put in the product name and your Zip code to learn about the processing companies near you.

Vegetarian/Vegan Recipes: One of the best things you can do for the environment is give up meat and dairy products. In case you didn¡¯t know, the ratio of water input to milt output is 1000 to 1 on average in the US for cattle. There are several apps that help your transition to veganism. I have suggested two each for iOS and Android. Green Kitchen and I¡¯m hungry are recipe apps suited for veganism. Food Monster and HappyCow are restaurant finders for vegan lifestyle.

Virtual Water: Water usage behind a product can tell us about the sustainable practices behind a product which would enable us to make better choices among products. Virtual water is a project to calculate how much water is used to produce non-food consumer goods, including energy.

Good on You: Sustainable fashion is currently the most important movement that needs to take place. Micro plastics from artificial fibers are ruining our food chain as well as the food chain of fishes. Good on you is a sustainable fashion app that helps you figure out the environmental cost of fashion as well as finds if there is a sweatshop associated with the product.
