Easier than you think

It¡¯s okay to feel like going eco-friendly is really hard, because it can get quite cumbersome from time to time. However, with a little bit of good will, you can take the small steps to reach sustainable lifestyle excellence. I have discussed some of the small yet accessible steps you can take below:

  • Organic & Natural fibers:
The picture I have shown below is a picture of my Fatua, a shirt made by Taati¡¯s in Bangladesh which is biodegradable and does not harm the soil or the sea. You can start to look for OEKO-TEX or similarly certified clothes.
Check environmental impacts of fibers here and here.

  • Set the temperature close to ambient:
Air Conditioners are the largest contributor to electrical consumption of residential areas. It¡¯s easy to be comfortable in higher temperatures as human body prefers to be at 22 C (on average) so we should keep our thermostat as close to ambient as possible. In fact, 1 C increase in temperature from ambient decreases AC efficiency from 12% to 18%.

  • Reduce, Reuse and Recycle:
DIY projects may seem cumbersome to many but just look at he cute photo frame made using old wooden measuring scale! It can be just the project you needed to keep busy during the quarantine. The picture is of my parents¡¯.

  • Thrifting:
Books specially are not being reused as much as they used too. Its common to buy old books I Bangladesh but that¡¯s not the case everywhere. Making sure things that don¡¯t need to be in trash and is recyclable don¡¯t end up in the landfills should be the ethos of all eco-warriors. In picture you can see my 2nd hand Animal Farm from George Orwell as well as the water bottle I have been re-using.
