ECO ANT

PART 1

An ant is a very cherished insect in the society of Africa. This is because there are a lot of lessons that could be learnt from the lives of these little insects and apply them directly in the lives of human beings. Join me as I try to highlight a few things we could learn from the ant to help better our environment and our way of life.

The ant feeds naturally. This is a very important feature of the ant. As humans, we could imitate this life style of ants and the effects would be great because it would help solve some environmental problems we face today. Imagine I have a garden in my backyard, growing some common vegetables I could use for food like tomatoes, carrots, pepper, lettuce, and onion. When I run out of stock in the kitchen, I could simply enter the garden and harvest the ones which are ready for consumption from the garden.

This simple move made by me could enhance the environment in the following ways;

i.                   It saves me time (movement from the house to the market).

ii.                 It prevents me from using fuel which pollutes the environment. This case might vary from place to place because the nearest market from my home is about 6 kilometres away. I will dare not burden my legs especially if I am in a hurry to fix a table, I would definitely join a bus to the market.

iii.              There is no need to package harvested crops from my garden, hence plastic/rubber/paper pollution is eliminated.

iv.               It is with no doubt that naturally grown crops are healthy, hence my body is enhanced when I consume foods prepared from the crops harvested from my garden. I will live healthily and happily.

v.                 The leftovers from the preparation of the food and the harvest again could be used to produced organic manure which in turn would make my backyard garden very fertile for growth of more crops.

This is lesson number one from the life of an ant, it is amazing how much we could learn from a simple insect like an Ant!

 I will continue to drop a lesson for the next six months. Stay tuned and lookout for my Eco Ant Series as we continue to serve Mother Nature and Humanity.
