My journey as a 24th Eco-generation Regional Ambassador

by Meena Pandey | 27-08-2020 12:38

I will like to take this opportunity to appeal recommendation for me as the ¡®The most inspirational ambassador of 24th Eco-generation regional ambassador¡¯. If you really commend my work and dedication towards the environment, my activities influence you in any way or you feel the title of ¡®justice me, kindly recommend me for this honorable title.

 ¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦

It has already been 6 months long of my tenure as 24th regional ambassador and I am also one among 25th regional ambassadors as I have extended my tenure. We had worked hard to get to this point. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Tunza Eco-generation who provided us an elite platform to work for our nature.

Thank you for mentors (Taehyun and Sang Su) for unselfishly sharing your time, knowledge and sound advice with us. Those were powerful weapons to keep us moving on. Also you mentor have done excellent job of providing timely feedback and recognition to team members so I feel honored to be the ambassador under your mentorship. I really appreciate your support in this endeavor.

Working with all the ambassador I have learnt to work with people of diverse professional background. In the same time, I also like to disclose that we worked with high morale, treat each other and accomplish amazing things. This platform has taught me to timely set goals and so make them put into effect.

I was appointed as 24th regional ambassador in 21 Feb, 2020. The time flew so quick that I felt 6 months of tenure so short. During my tenure, it was not ease to conduct the campaign in the social level due to havoc of corona virus globally. The self- efficacy was lowered despite my will in this global pandemic. However, I have not left any stone unturned to give the best.

I want to highlight my most of the works and duties I have done even during my tenure in this global pandemic.

1. Release of ¡®Know life forms in Nepal¡¯ poster campaign

We must be grateful for any life forms for their companionship which has made the earth sustain its life and so the creatures. Nature and ecosystem in nature are in perfect harmony where every living and nonliving thing has a role to play in making the ecosystem and environment coexist creating a perfect balance among them. Many animals has already extinct some are in the state of Regionally Extinct (RE), Threatened (Critically Endangered (CR), Endangered (EN) and Vulnerable (VU)), and Near Threatened (NT).

So, I have released this campaign so as to make highlight the facts of the animals and its state. This helps the person change their attitude towards the animals and can contribute for the protection of the animals. I post the posters in the official page of Tunza Eco-network, Nepal and gallery of Tunza Eco-generation twice a week.

2. Assessment of the source of wastage and management attempts in the pious place ¡® Champadevi¡¯; having a potential of attracting the tourists from different corners of the world.

Champa Devi hill is one of the best Destination for a day hike and also a very popular hiking route near and around Kathmandu valley. This hill is one of the highest hills surrounding the Kathmandu valley by the height of 2278meter. It is the third-highest hill surrounding the Kathmandu valley.
Champadevi hill gives a real chance to visualize the whole Kathmandu Valley with a panoramic vision. Not only the Kathmandu valley- Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts, from here we also can have a beautiful view of Kirtipur and Pharping village district respectively.

But it feels pity that such an wonderful place is suffering from plastic pollution. The visitors visiting the place usually carry junk and packed foods are throw the plastics recklessly. I had assessed the source of waste from different visitors there and asked to the hotel owner in the vicinity of the temple.

3. Awaring locality¡¯s children

This year we have to face unprecedented time that we have to lie inside home. Despite of having want of celebrating the Earth day as nice as we had been celebrating the past years, we couldnot. had intended to visit the school of rural areas in my district to show my prepared presentation and documentaries but the plan did not drive for success.

In the Earth day, I made kids near my home gather by proper precaution applied. I told them what the earth day actually mean and they enjoyed listening to me. They made the promise to act eco-friendly. Due to some technical error, I am not being able to show their promise which were depicted in papers.
Every day must be celebrated as the earth day, so we can see the earth which we prayed for.

4.  Afforestation program/ Plantation program

Being the board member of Nepal Youth Council- Rupandehi chapter, I got the opportunity to be one of the campaign co-ordinator of nationwide plantation program. The team proposed and we successfully conducted this campaign. Even it was given nationwide plantation program, we had got people participating from different countries. In this campaign, the people from 33 districts out of 77 participated planting more than 300 plants. The campaign was for 3 trees. People irrespective of all age group had participated. The child who planted the plants are aware now for the plantation of the trees. We are organizing more eco-acts in coming days through this platform, too in coming days.

5. Successfully completed ¡®Online Slogan Writing Competition¡¯ on the theme ¡®Our solutions are in nature¡¯

On the occasion of ¡®International Day for Biological Diversity¡¯, I had conducted ¡®Online Slogan Writing Competition¡¯. There were 199 participants in total from different countries. The slogan had expressed their intense feelings towards the nature. It was very hard to declare the winner of the competition. So, I made approach to the top professors of different university of Nepal- Mr. Subodh Khanal and Mr. Kashiraj Pandey. Along, with it we had climate activists Miss Bindu Bhandari and Mr Ravi Bista, IELTIS and TOEFEL experts so that the winner will be declared fairly. The campaign was not easy to handle alone. However, being regional ambassador I collected all the courage to clear the obstacle. All the slogans were posted in the official facebook page of Tunza Eco network Nepal and gallery of Tunza Eco-generation. Working for the environment even in the busy schedule offered me a great pleasure after the end of the campaign. During the global pandemic where we are in lockdown, it was the great way to act from the room.

6. ¡®I care for nature for nature¡¯:Plantation program

With this theme, I had conducted the plantation program in different districts of Nepal. It feels great to share that the major participants were one who had written slogan. Even, the people from Nigeria, Zambia, India planted trees. So, every small act matters. There were many innocent questions from eco-enthusiast and my lock down days spent well in addressing their queries.

7. I have published my scientific review article in the journal of Zibeline International entitled ¡®Role of nutrients in wheat; A review¡¯.

This article writing helped me to search the relationship between nutrients and wheat plant (environmental components). This is the important contribution in the scientific world of plant science.

8. ¡®Online cross word puzzle¡¯ competition:

With the aim of learning and playing at a time, I had organized this campaign. The crossword would solely comprise words related to the environment. By being a part, one can extend their knowledge regarding the environment and its component. In this campaign, participants will also have to write the most common environment problems in their locality and its mitigation options. This helps to access the different environmental problems along with its mitigation option. I have received impressive number of participants and their views. Winners will be revealed soon as at the end of the month. Also, this campaign will be done every month in my tenure by me.

9. Street Drama on ¡®Air pollution and breast feeding¡¯

I have performed street drama showing awareness in the first week of August, 2020 about the effects of air pollution in human health. As I love to work with obstacles, I performed the drama when the lockdown was loosened. I had distributed hand sanitizer and mask from my side and maintain few number of people to look the drama. I had managed sound system from my side. Every audience praised and admired our acts. In the act, the role play was performed by my siblings and my neighbor friends. The drama was performed with the consent of the community heads.
The drama was 20 min long. One who had always cooked food in the firewood had to face many respiratory problems in the play and so on.

10. School Campaign for awareness of plastic pollution:

After, I successfully conducted street drama, I had intended to conduct awareness campaign related to plastic pollution in nearby school. As the lockdown was loosened, with the consideration of nobel corona virus I had also distributed mask and sanitizer to the participants. Many people were found to burn the plastics for its management so I had made them aware about eco-friendly goods to replace plastic. The participants were from all age group were there. We can use jute bags instead of  plastic bags and even we can replace the  plastic plates we use in occasion can be replaced by traditional leaf plate (tapari).
We had a great time.

11. ¡®Together act for Agenda 2030¡¯

Me along with our eco-generation ambassador Sagar Koirala are going to organize a virtual program on ¡®Let¡¯s Unite For Agenda 2030¡¯. The webinar will provide an overview of the world¡¯s implementation efforts to date, highlighting areas of progress and where more action needs to be taken. We have published our google forms to collect the participants and we are having great number of participants. We will have speakers from different countries to exchange the ideas and overview on SDGs, 2020.
