[Thematic Report] Environment and me

by Ishitwa - | 20-08-2020 19:26

Environment and me

Something that I have stuck by through all these years is ¡°Your limitation—it's only your imagination.¡± Doing something for the environment is a persistent thought in a lot of people. However, many can't find the resources or opportunities to do so. Luckily, I was a part of the environment club of my school and back in 2015 I found my opportunity to connect with Tunza Eco-generation. In true sense, my journey with the environment strengthened like never before because of my introduction to this platform. Apart from this, my journey with the environment has been to engage in prompting the idea amongst people to think about environmental issues.

Through Eco-generation, I was availed a platform that allows me to raise issues that I feel are needed to be communicated. I have been encouraged to research and educate myself about the necessary environmental concerns of my country India and whole of Asia. As an economics student, I have tried to incorporate economics elements into my reports to highlight the economics loss faced as a consequence of environment deterioration. This is my personal agenda with regard to environment to highlight issues in light of economic perspective. In my limited capacity to raise issues during the pandemic, I have tried to discuss about what its consequence have been on air pollution and solid waste pollution. It is the duty as a conscious citizen of the world to highlight measures we can take to limit the deleterious effects on the environment. As a result, I have tried to bring attention towards NGO or organisations that are trying to ameliorate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the other issues I have tried to highlight are Indoor air pollution, animal testing of cosmetic products, water crisis, solid waste management, etc. It is also inspiring to see various other ambassadors of other countries engage in workshops and campaigns regarding environmental concerns. Their work is indeed inspiring and motivates me to initiate in such activities. They have fully utilised their responsibility as a Regional ambassador and inspired me to do the same.

Some of my other works towards the environment involve awareness campaigns and competitions organised in my capacity as the President of the Environment club of my school. I have also been associated with NGOs ¡°Centre For Advanced Research on Development and Change¡± and ¡°Vatavaran¡± (translated as ¡°Environment¡±) where I have volunteered for campaigns with an outlook for environmental awareness. In school, I had organised cleanliness campaigns around our school campus and 'International Environment festival' where students from across the globe came to showcase their ideas about environmental awareness. With the NGOs, I have engaged in organising competitions for the less privileged on topics of ¡°Clean India¡± to promote the awareness of cleanliness in the community.

Lastly, it has been an amazing journey, I would take this opportunity to thank Tunza Eco-generation to think of me as worthy of the responsibility of the Regional Ambassador for Asia and India.  This continuously has persuaded me to put efforts towards the environment, be it in limitations of the lockdown or even in the outside world. I hope my story can encourage anyone to extend their limitations and passionately work towards the environment to their fullest capacity. Together, we can achieve our goals and spread awareness to our maximum potential as the youth.
