[Thematic Report] Environment and me

by Chaehyun Park | 20-08-2020 20:12

I had one excuse.
"I really wanna do something great for the environment, but my situation is not enough."
Let me give you an example. The campaigns that require the government to stop investing in fossil fuels are on weekdays when I have to go to school. And some assemblies are always in Seoul where I've got to spend burdensome money and time to go.
However, it had felt to naught because of Greta Thunberg's school refusal. Seeing her, I felt two shame
One, I'm stuck in a terrible frame as a student in Korea. I hadn't thought of skipping a school as a defiance against the world. School taught me that a student's priority is going to school. I couldn't break that stereotype; there's more important than going to school.
Two, to know that school is not everything, but nothing can do. The difference between knowledge and ignorance is big. Therefore, the size of punishment given when one knows and does not know is different. Now that I have realized, and now that I know, if I don't do something, that will be a sin. But I still can't miss school and go to Seoul.
Yes, I'm a coward.
A coward who is more afraid of school teachers than of rising sea levels.
A coward who is more worried about school grades than the global average temperature rises.
A coward who worries more about high school in the face of the disappearance of the 22nd century.
.
.
I have nothing done for the environment. It is my confession. That's why I hadn't posted the report about my environment activity for six months. I think I kept only complaining while writing reports, not taking action. So I can't write anything this months but confession since I can't lie.
But writing reports as an ambassador of TUNZA Eco-generation was consolation and refuge from the guilty mind.
I am so glad to have been a member of TUNZA Eco-generation, and I sincerely promise to be a brave student from a coward.
