The Environment and Me

As an ambassador of Tunza Eco-Generation and an enthusiast of the environment, caring for the environment has always been my core value. Considering what pollution of the environment could possibly do in a country like mine (Ghana) where we are still developing, our lives could be in danger when we do not take care of the environment very well.

I stepped out of my boundaries to do a little clean up in my community. Not everybody cares that much about the environment down here simply because most of us here are not well educated on the effects of environmental pollution.

The extent of plastic and rubber pollution is on the rise all around the world. I used this as an opportunity to collect all plastic and rubber waste I could come across and packed them to be given to recycling companies that can make use of the plastics. When plastic waste is not disposed appropriately its effects is very bad because it pollutes the environment and also increases the chances of climate change. This is so because plastics take a lot of years to breakdown in soil and when they are burnt too, it pollutes the air and also contributes to an increase in CO2 emission which also badly affects the environment.

I again helped my little sister with her garden. She has grown tomatoes of different kinds, some carrots and other vegetables. Gardening is another way of protecting the environment. Food is something we cannot do away as human beings and since we keep procreating, our population also keeps increasing and this puts a lot of pressure on the environment because it has to provide food to meet the requirement of each individual. Getting a backyard garden is a nice way of reducing this pressure. You can grow your own food which is very healthy and very safe for consumption. My sister is 10 years of age, I couldn¡¯t get her pictured in the images attached because she was actually the one who took all the pictures I have attached and her love for gardening is evident that things would gradually improve in my quest to help raise awareness in my community of the need to protect the environment. The images are attached for your perusal and appreciation.
