Since 1970s UAE has been focussing its effort on conserving Houbara bustard, that was once on the brink of extinction. But the programs initiated by UAE has revived its existence and it is soaring high now. The Houbara bustard is a striking, large-bodied bird with long legs and a slender neck. It is local to North Africa and southwestern Asia, where it lives in dry environments. It is equally an essential part of UAE's history and cultural heritage and is used in the art of falconry. The worldwide populace is recorded as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 2014. The European populace is confined to the Canary Islands and has been surveyed as Near Threatened in the year 2015. With regard to this, UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) to combine and exacerbate their drive towards preserving the species from the imminent threat of extinction. Various themes of discussion were agreed upon under the MoU such as bolstering both provincial and worldwide participation in ascertaining the preservation and well-being of the species, featuring the UAE's role in houbara protection, executing laws in order to overcome and legally end houbara overhunting, adjusting methodology and guidelines identified with countering the illegitimate exchange of the species, and retaining the characteristic natural surroundings of the wild houbaras. Additionally, both entities have also made key decisions to carry out discussions for the purpose of understanding and sharing data and learning skills on houbara protection and habitat restoration. credit - gulf news, wikipedia, adwonline.ae |
